She sat alone in the yard.  Tears rolled down her face as she stared at the item in her lap.  The tiny face of the little glass camel stared back at her, its artificial gaze holding hers as she cried.  It was the last thing she had of him, a glass camel.  Thinking about him only made her feel worse.  She couldn’t get the last night they had shared out of her mind; the argument was burned into her brain like a branding iron. --Flashback-- It had snowed the night that he left.  Outside, the world was freezing and there were people out there in grandpa sweaters and snow pants trying their best to shovel and salt their sidewalks and driv

He wanders the hallways, a singular room in mind. The shouts grow as he approaches. Erik groans mournfully. Another day at Garnier Elementary. As he opens the door, the sound erupts like thunder. It lasts for only a moment. Entering to an eerie quiet, he takes comfort in silence. He surveys his youngest students, staring back in fearful fascination. The room seems colder, once bright lights almost dimmer. Just one, only one more day. Distant ringing breaks the illusion, pupils scurry to their instruments. Honey sweet harmony fills the diminutive practice space, encompassing him joyously. Simplistic, pure yet cloying melodies drift through

From the first day, I knew she was different. She was a shock to the system of sheltered, small town children who didn’t know the meaning of a hard life. She was everything convention and society weren’t. Baggy clothes over freckley, too-white skin More make-up than any of us had ever seen on any one person. I had never known what the world was really like until I met her I could never imagine… I could never fathom… I could never know what she knew I could never… No one ever really got to know her They never saw her pain, never really listened, never saw the signs. They only judged her; treated her like a pass

She stared at the picture in front of her with a sad sort of smile on her face.  It had been taken two years ago, when they had met.  He was tall with spiky, blonde hair and bespectacled, hazel eyes.  She was half-a-head shorter than him and had a slim build.  Her blue eyes were full of joy over some award she had won at that science fair that he had presented her with.  Now they were welling up with tears. It had been nearly a year since she had seen him last, she realized, and in all that time, so much seemed to have changed for her.  That was an incredible understatement; everything had changed, because they couldn't just leave it at that

Warring sides, A burning sky The sun a mere dot In an ocean of gray. I see the sides struggle For dominance And wonder, Which do I choose? Can it be that simple? To pick a side, As easily as picking A swing on the set before me? I blink back tears In this field where I stand, Staring at the remnants Of forgotten childhood days. I am like the sun Consumed by the conflict. Caught in this age old feud; red fighting against blue. I stare up at the harsh November sky. Nothing can stop the warring sides. Not even the sun.

“She’s going to die.”  As he said it, dad’s voice was devoid of all emotion.  I couldn’t speak, I only stared at him.  He looked defeated, lost and broken. “W-what,” was all that I managed to say to him.  I felt my tears running down my cheeks as I tried to picture a world without mom.  Dying, my mother was dying and my father had given up already.  This wasn’t right; we had to help her.  We had to make her better again, not just sit here and let her die.  Then dad just walked away, unable to face her and her death, and I felt like I might implode.   It wasn’t supposed to be like this.  

The woman screams The doctor backs away Her breath is heavy He quickly understands The police ask what happened Did you see his face? When did this happen? Where did this happen? Endless questions for her The emotional wreck Her boyfriend won't touch her For respect or disgust? Everyone she knows They try to sympathize But she knows They only pity her The audience watches All at the edge of their seats Waiting, just waiting To see what will happen next

A shattered world A desperate girl A life messed up She wanders alone Rejected by the world Her eternal exile No one knows No one cares She isn't worth their time No one wants her No one gives a damn She's been through so much She keeps her mouth shut She hates what she's become But it's too late She's the center of attention Lying motionless in the street Unseeing eyes on passerby Unforgiving world Suddenly wonder What's become of her?

Long gone are those days Of childhood innocence Our ignorant bliss wiped away Like a picture in the dirt The shadow of poverty Looming over us Dragging us down Into horror and despair Our own ignorance Pulling us from innocence This is a whole new feeling This is growing up
